GUID stands for Globally Unique IDentifier. This is a numeric ID value that is unique not just across the scope of the type of entity we're dealing with, but also across all types of entities.

If a blog post has a GUID of 7342, we know that no other entity in the system has a GUID of 7342.

All ElggEntities have a GUID.
