ConfiguringTwitterService (User)

What is Twitter Services?

Twitter Services provides Twitter support for Elgg plugins. To allow plugins to Tweet your content, you must first authorize your account in Twitter, and enable the plugins in the Elgg settings panel. These instructions are for network users. View this page for admin information.

Authorizing your network account with Twitter

  1. Log in to your network and click the "Settings" link at the top, then the "Configure Your Tools" link on the side menu.
  2. Look for the section labeled "Twitter Services" and click on the link to authorize your account.
  3. On the next page, click the green "Authorize" button. You will be asked to log into Twitter if you aren't already.
  4. You'll then be taken back to your Elgg settings page where you can pick which plugins to allow.

(As of Oct 7 2010 only The Wire supports tweeting).

Troubleshooting

If the authorize link in the user settings page isn't working, there might be a configuration problem in the Twitter Services plugin. Contact your administrator and point him or her to the admin documentation.

If you have successfully authorized Twitter but nothing is being posted you might need to revoke authorization and then reauthorize.

  1. Visit the connections page on Twitter, find your Elgg site, then click "Revoke."
  2. Log in to your Elgg site, visit the "Configure your tools" page's Twitter Services section and click "revoke."
  3. Reauthorize your account by following the directions above.

If you are still unable to tweet, ask your administrator to make sure they selected "Read & Write" when creating the application.
